Another year and another season of festivals in the city of Montreal begins.  One of the biggest winter festivals to happen early in the year is Montreal en Lumiere which kicked off this year on February 18th and ends on March 5th.  One of the most popular events is la Nuit Blanche, which is pretty much an all-nighter where the city stays open until the weee hours of the morning, free public transport and loads of activities.

For another year, this also means the kick off to my multi event coverage of activities for the City of Montreal’s cultural department.  Not as bone chilling cold as last year, which meant that the outdoor site was packed with people wanting to check out some of the free activities like zip lining over Ste-Catherine street, the big wheel, concerts, an urban ice slide and so much more.  Here are some of my favorite shots from the Montreal en Lumiere festival !

One of the most interesting (and photogenic) exhibits this year was the Ilot des Chaleurs, part of the Illuminart series of light installments.  This one was essentially a bonfire of lights that got brighter, warmer and taller the more people were around it.  Festival goers danced around the ilot, creating body heat, which activated the lights, warmth and even a bit of smoke.  Really innovative and cool!

I covered 2 other events for the city and have dozens lined up for the year, which bring me to all the corners of the city and allow me to discover some of the unique areas and events that happen throughout the year.  Saw the city play together at Montreal Joue and some funky store puppet displays at le festival Les Castelliers.  Check back for more images of our vibrant and amazing metropolis! 🙂
