Rise Against | Olympia Theare | Montreal Music Photographer

I have a short list of bands that I will make sure I photograph each and every time they come to town.  Rise Against are pretty much the top of that list.  The energy they have in their songs is carried forward on stage.  Last night at a very sold out Olympia theatre, the band was headlining a gig that also included a personal fave of mine, Killswitch Engage.

It was hot in the Olympia.  I had sweat coming down my forehead while shooting.  The pit was packed with photographers.  And the lights… ohhh… what beautiful lights.  For you photo enthusiasts, being able to shoot at ISO 1600 and still keep a 1/200 shutter is pretty great for non arena shows.

14 songs in their first set, followed by 2 acoustic songs (Hero of War and Swing Life Away) and then closing with Dancing for Rain and Savior in their encore, the fans certainly got their moneys worth.  For a band that has played at the Bell Centre, it was a treat seeing them in a smaller venue.

You can see a bunch more images up at CHOM 97.7 FM soon!

I’ve been working on trying to fit more black and white images in my photo series, but with a purpose.  Many just throw them in here and there, but I’m liking how the black and white can capture the more candid parts of a show.  Colour fits so very well with the high energy images, black and white keeps things classic for the more laid back shots
