Meet Thanh and Simon. Yes, their personalities are as colourful as what they are wearing. Thanh approached me in June about shooting her wedding in October. Two things really drew her to how I shoot… my candid, natural and emotional photos as well as my urban photography. She loved how I incorporated lines and human elements in many of my urban shots and gave me the challenge to do the same in her wedding pictures. Not the easiest challenge, but I’m always up for something fun and different!
I must say that I lucked out with these guys. They were smiley, energetic and up for anything. When they told me that they met back in school when they were kids and were getting married right across from the school, I was probably as excited as they were. When you can attach an emotion or a memory to an area, it makes the photos that much more special. While we couldn’t go inside, we did walk around the school and the playground and for then, ended up taking a stroll down memory lane.
After the walk around at the school, we headed inside the old public library they chose as their wedding ceremony venue (which again, out of the norm but totally cool). They were great with giving me the time I needed to capture the images before the ceremony, playing off some of the architecture inside the building. I got one of the best compliments from them afterwards when they told me that the guests had no idea they had a photographer there as I was more of a fly on the wall and they were shocked that I was able to capture some of the photos I did. Mission accomplished!
