Round 2 of my Vans Warped 2013 round-up! Check out the Round 1 write up (5 bands!) here. I grouped the two bands below not because they have similar music, but mainly because both bands actually have 2 main singers.
First band I shot on the main stage in Hartford was We Came As Romans. Love shooting main stages as there are soooo many people in the crowd, it gives amazing shots of surfers and fans in the front. But this is also where it gets pretty intense having to deal with the security personnel who are trying to safely pull out the surfers and keeping order in the pit. You get on average 8-10 photographers in the pit in the main stage, and as Warped is usually flexible with medias they let in, you have quite a few first time shooters, iphoners… but thankfully, no one shooting with an ipad haha.
I had never seen We Came As Romans live. Groups with 2 main singers are always interesting to shoot as you try and capture shots with both singers. Didn’t get any good ones here though. There is always something going on on the stage, so you really need to focus on what you want to shoot. The band brought their metalcore style of music early on in the day to a pretty packed crowd. And judging by the amount of people coming over the barrier and flipping upside down while surfing, the band was spot on with their music.

I first discovered 3oh!3 a few years ago while shooting Warped. No idea who they were (sue me, I dont know everyone 😉 ) and had a great time watching them on stage. They are pretty fun and just seem to be having a good time. That was the case again this year in Hartford. Their type of electropop really gets the crowd moving and cheering… almost as much as the duo on stage! This was their last date on the Warped Tour and the guys really did go all out on stage. Makes for funkier images, thanks! 🙂
They played in the mid afternoon, somewhere in the 3pm range, so I was really starting to get into the shooting groove as I had shot 3-4 bands before them. I was also getting pretty damn hot and was probably up to my 4th bottle of water already.
Time to put some wear and tear on that scroll wheel… here is the rest of the 3oh!3 image set 🙂
